# What is Model Generation?

One big step in a family of models, usually marked by a new major version number. Each one tends to shift what is possible, so work built around today's limits can expire within a generation or two.

The PM sorted the roadmap into items that get better with each model generation and items that only patch today's weaknesses, and put most of the budget behind the first group.
