# What is Trace?

The step-by-step record of an agent's run: every model call, tool call, input and output, in order. Reading one shows where a run went wrong, which a final score alone cannot.

## In real work

The final answer looked fine, but the trace showed the agent had called search eleven times and ignored the first result, which was correct.
